OUCH!
A very revealing resignation letter from Greg Smith, formerly of Goldman Sachs.
TODAY is my last day at Goldman Sachs.
After almost 12 years at the firm — first as a summer intern while at Stanford, then in New York for 10 years, and now in London — I believe I have worked here long enough to understand the trajectory of its culture, its people and its identity. And I can honestly say that the environment now is as toxic and destructive as I have ever seen it.
The rest here.

STEALTH SURFING
“Many Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in the western world are required by law to track nearly everything you do online. While the US government has been trying to hide their electronic wiretapping program as a state secret, the EU made theirs public by passing theData Retention Directive of 2006. Article 5, under “Categories of data to be retained”, lists the gory details of what is tracked. This is required for home phones, mobile phones, Internet telephony and e-mail. And depending on the country, this information will be kept for 6 months to 2 YEARS."

SURVEILLING EVERYTHING
What will happen when power-crazed governments across the globe have the technological capacity to record and analyze literally everything for immediate and future reference? Nothing good, of course.

WAR FOR TOTAL CONTROL
“Like a sharp two-edged sword, the Internet and the very rapidly evolving technologies surrounding it, are poised to either usher in a new era of intellectual, cultural and spiritual enlightenment, material well-being and true cooperation amongst nations bent on resolving common global problems; or we may be about to fall into a black abyss of absolute totalitarian control; intellectual, physical and spiritual violence; and mass slavery on an unprecedented scale."

MIND CONTROL
‘The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country. We are governed, our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of.’ — Edward Bernays, 1928, pg.1, Propaganda

FINANCIAL SABOTAGE & THE ECONOMIC CRISIS
A lenghty must-read for the summer holiday: At Deep Capture, journalists Mark Mitchell and Patrick Byrne have done an admirable investigative work in uncovering some of the deeper, darker connections behind the economic crisis.
The Miscreants' Global Bust-out reads like a well-written spy novel and has a cast of shady characters ranging from Cosa Nostra figures to Jihadists, rogue intelligence operatives and Wall Street market manipulators. This is the kind of analysis you won't find in your daily newspaper.

WHO IS BEHIND WIKILEAKS?
"World bankers, by pulling a few simple levers that control the flow of money, can make or break entire economies. By controlling press releases of economic strategies that shape national trends, the power elite are able to not only tighten their stranglehold on this nation's economic structure, but can extend that control world wide. Those possessing such power would logically want to remain in the background, invisible to the average citizen."
– Aldous Huxley
